Steve has worked on getting Roland's prototype to work again. He has checked that communication of variables is performed correctly and in line with the new clauses. This works, removing some syncs makes Carpet throw an error message. It would be best if Carpet could recognize the missing syncs and simply apply them itself. But this depends on the variable! In hydro, some variables need to have special treatment, should not be synced but calculated in other ways.

Where this should development go? Splitting Carpet's driver part out and into the flesh, since it is rather independent of Carpet anyway by now. Only the AMR part would remain in Carpet. Who should oversee this? Someone will have to be the watchdog for the flesh now. Frank? Suggest and discuss over the Cactus Users mailing list. Should the flesh be concurrently switched from svn to git?
